oops

well im now three weeks post-op and feeling fine am still taking pain killers but oh well. I broke my brace oop so i went to get it fixed but they couldn't coz my jaw wouldn't be strong enough for the pulling and pushing to get the wire out, whilst i was there they checked my bite and decided i needed banding so i have two bands on the right side and one on the left to pull my bite over a bit but i can still eat the mush so not too bad, The swelling has stopped reducing now i think it's gonna take a few months for the rest to disappear but oh well. Feeling loads better now and starting to look like me

Day 9 much better and slightly smilingish

day 5 on the up

day 4 looking bit better

day 3 and home

day one aswell very swollen but back on normal ward
day one

yey it's over and done with

Well im now 10 days poast upper and lower jaw surgery and thankfully my chin didnt need doing, the past 2 weeks pre- and post -op have been the hardest i have ever faced and a very emotional ride. I can now say i am glad i have had this done but at first i thought what have i done. i have been taken photo's every few days and so ill post them as they keep coming.
As i have not updated for a while i'll have to go back to before the op so here goes.

The week before my op i had a wafer fitting which was nothing to worry about evidently just a bit of plastic lol so that was the easy bit .
The night before my op i have never been as scared in my whole life and was very tempted to run and cope with my teeth the way they are but i didn't which im am glad about now.
Going down to theatre was awful, i have seen this operation done in theatre and so i knew exactly what they were going to do but luckily they knocked me out good and proper and quick which was even better lol.
The next thing i remember was waking in POCU post operative care unit similar to High dependancy, i was quite sick and stuff but the drugs help and now it feels like a long time ago, the swelling was bad my face and neck was huge. My brother didn't like it in there with the machines and stuff. I saw my surgeon and he said my bite is perfect and that i didn't need banding shut yey!
Then i got transfered to a normal ward for a day and then went home the day after it was too soon i think i was pretty rough at home but luckily i have the best parents in the world who really looked after me.
the third day was the worst as couldn't stop drooling, being sick and having nose bleeds but after that things started to get better i could then eat or rather shove and swallow pasta and soup so not a liguid diet and drugs lol, which is good
after one week the docs put two bands on the left side of my mouth to try and improve my bite very slightly but the muscles in my face went into spasm and so i cut the bands off he he the doc said it was ok though.
One of the hardest things i find now is that i get very tired i do improve daily but still tired.
now it is day 10 and i can now sort of smile i haven't drooled in about a week or had a nose bleed touch wood, im still not chewing food until the docs say i can but at least i like pasta and soup.
I have lost over half a stone so far yey and i hope more to come off lol. Ill keep posting and i know i have condenced about 2 weeks here so if there is anything you want to know ask ill get back to you

ill add some pics now to show the swelling from the start to now as it has reduced loads

Pre-op assesment

Had my pre-op today all seemed to go well just got to wait and see if they find anything with my blood tests and swabs but hopefully they won't. Also had an appointment with my surgeon who took measurements of my jaws and put a strange frame thingy on. I am now also having my top wisdom teeth out at the same time as the operation which i am so happy about, at least ill be asleep when they chopping and pulling me to pieces lol.
It's nearly two weeks off now and can't wait just want to get it out of the way now and recovering.
Got one exam first but then most of my uni stuff will be ready and submitted before my op
Anyways im having my wafer fitting whateverthat involves soon so ill post an update then .

Braces to now

Before braces

I Started the treatment when i was 17 and had my wisdom teeth and other teeth surgically removed. Once i had healed up my braces were put on. I have now had them on for just over 2 years and can't really remember what it was like without them i am due to get the hooks put on in july ready for the big break. I'll post some pics of before my braces and now. Bye for now

My Big Break

Hi my name is Emily, i am a 19 year old student nurse at the moment. I am going to be having a bimaxillary osteotomy with genioplasty on the 3rd August this year to allign my teeth. My bottom jaw is too small and by top jaw is to big and so the will break them both and move top one back and bottom one forward. Due to the bottom jaw being moved forward my chin is likely to jut out and so basically it will be chopped down a bit, sounds simple lol. It should take about 6 hours with a five day stay in hospital. Then food will be the biggest battle. I am doing this because i have been looking at others and the help and advice of people who have had it make a big difference, so hopefuly i can help other people.
